Quadbot – Walkcycle (Rendered)

This is the same as the OpenGL clip i posted last week, just rendered.

Again, this was just a test, in no way is this movement the defined style of movement for the Quadbot.

  1. Christoph Pöhler aka Dracio says:

    Very fine witch renderer?

and Is the Material and Textur Final or in Progess?

    • kjartan says:

      It’s rendered in cycles.
Quick disclaimer. I have not really started the shading and texturing on this guy. This is just a base diffuse material with a slight glossy mixed in.

  2. Gamble says:

    Very nice moves :)

  3. Terry Wallwork says:

Awesome model. All we need now is a cameo from ED-209 :)

    Great work.

    • Christoph Pöhler aka Dracio says:

But the Quadbot is definly superial cause he is abel to master Stairs

  4. shul says:

Very nice render. I know this is only the start and that’s why I’ll suggest making it “heavier” in it’s movements, it’s a massive beast and the center of gravity should be lower, as it’s movements.

    • Extensor says:

It also doesn’t feel heavy because the front feet are too far in. They should be under the shoulders or a little farther out to give the impression that they are bearing the weight.

  5. That is looking pretty amazing. I’m excited to see what it will look like in action!

  6. storm_st says:

Anyone else note white firefly “bursts” when horizontal angle close to aligned 90 degrees axes, maybe related to some BVH numerical instability?

  7. Zecarias says:

How many cycle passes per frame ?

    Very nice job btw.

  8. ronald says:

Looks pretty cool so far. It feels to lightweight like shul allready sayd.

Some suggestions: the shoulder and hip “shields” look to upright and dont match the side line or curvature of the creature well. The hip shield should also be a bit smaller then the thing on the shoulder. I made a quick rough sketch to illustrate this http://db.tt/3rK9v1On

    Great work so far!
    How about a tail?

  9. MxD says:

Waw ! That beast has potential !
I like him very much ! The way he looks, the way he walks !
    First class ***** !!!

  10. mookie says:

However the whole bone-system is really impressing the animation itself is medium at best. The robot moves like a little plastic toy instead of heavy machine. There’s something wrong with the way it touches the ground – it’s too gentle, there’s no strength in these steps at all.

  11. mookie says:

    *really impressive

  12. maghoxfr says:

From my point of view, the robot looks threatening and cold but it walks in an innocent way, like a puppy. I don’t know what its role on the story is, but to my eyes it’s kind of a contradiction.

If he looks like this, I think he should walk like a tiger. Threatening, confident, fearless.

If he walks like he’s walking now, he should look a bit more innocent and “good” in nature. Like wall-e.

Hope you don’t take this the wrong way. THe animation is mind blowing. I’m just trying to give you my point of view.
