Weekly – May 25

Here’s my random pick from last week’s ‘weekly folder’.

Here’s one of the shots we’re currently working on; tracking, keying, cleaning, masking, adding 3d environment & props, add guns, light bolts, robots, light design, composite and final grade! Hopefully that’s something we can show next week.

  1. 3pointedit says:

Sweet plasma effects from the gun! Nice DOF too.

  2. 3pointedit says:

Oh and thank god someone thought of the interactive lighting, thought you were going to derive a point cloud and project lighting in there.

  3. J. says:

    Nice!

The iPhone with the virtual slate says that the camera was filming with a shutter speed of 1/48, but this is not correct, as the shutter angle was 172.8, so it has to be 1/50. (see /wp-content/uploads/2012/05/472.jpg)

In Europe (and other places with 50hz power) it is usual to film with a 172.8 degree shutter angle instead of 180 in order to prevent flicker from certain kinds of lights.
In the US they just shoot at 180 as you don’t have this problem with 60hz lights.

Don’t forget this when rendering the CGI, or else the motion blur will not match 100%.

  4. Nathaniel de Bell says:

Though the work which is produced regularly by the institute is generally admirable and impressive, the revealed footage of scene 7.1 of the project is relatively uninspiring. I am concerned that the posture and movement of the scientists within the scene do not emulate the indicated and associated dynamism and heroism. I sincerely hope that this growing unease will abate as further developments occur.

    • Apos says:

Did you see the screen shots posted right above? You’ll get a better idea of what it may look like.

    • Josh Cryer says:

Ha, there were several cuts of this. Ian talked to the actors about various poses and postures. I’m pretty sure this was one of the first cuts, actually…

  5. Christoph Pöhler aka Dracio says:

    Hi
Looks increbly Cool… But pleas put a Anmation of the Glovegun online
Cause my first impression was “Hey cool Spacship” for sure in animation the Hohl apel will Change

    • Christoph Pöhler aka Dracio says:

SO I just sah an Animation in the Meeting very brilliant
      :D

  6. blenderguy says:

Are the buildings in the skyline renders (first 2 pictures) generated with a Blender-Addon or did you model and texture some buildings by hand and repeated them randomly?

  7. blenderman says:

looking at picture1: nah, they need higher res. textures
looking at picture2: lol, looks photorealistic with these textures :D

    GREAT Work! :)

    • blenderman says:

maybe tweak the roof textures a little, but otherwise it’s just working nicely :)

by the way: thanks for removing the DOF, from the last render.

  8. sozap says:

then add 5/10 lensflares per shot in the end of the movie and 20 lensflares to the ending shot, that should be epic and award winning for sure…

    • Ben says:

Also, what worries me is the complete lack of cowbell. I thought you were professionals…

      • Ben Dansie says:

Yeah, but adding the cowbell in post allows for much finer tweaking of the subtle nuances. Makes it easier to turn it up to eleven as well when that extra something is required.

        So long as:
        no. cowbell > 9000
        movie = epic

  9. 3pointedit says:

I want a bunny! And it better be good.

  10. mookie says:

I can’t find this scene with scientist in storyboard. Has it been changed?

  11. kig says:

Just do what you wanna do. Don’t listen to all the wishes of people. Don’t let others create chaos. Just do what you need to do. Do what you want to do. It is your baby.

  12. 3pointedit says:

Will there be any trolls in the movie? There are plenty here to choose from ;)

  13. 3pointedit says:

A legit query, does the image sequence node work in the compositor for Tomato? Tiles seems to have killed the frame iteration for render out.

  14. ton says:

Note: I weed out unacceptable comments here almost daily, no reason to respond to trolls – because that gets removed too!

  15. the mango sure great success for blender users. We work hard to get the victory. We are wait for display the mango in Iran.
